Releasing our second EP, "Rest Your Weary Eyes"

The writing/recording process for “Rest Your Weary Eyes” began the Spring of 2017, and was finished and released on Oct 2017. The EP featured more harmonies and stronger vocals from the duo (Daniel sang a lot more in this one). It was strongly influenced by John Frusciante’s ‘The Empyrean’, Death Cab For Cutie ‘Kintsugi’ , City and Colour’s ‘Bring me your Love’, and Oh Wonders self-titled album. The entire EP was recorded in the duo’s basement using Shure sm7b for vocals, and an Audix microphone for acoustic guitar and electric guitar on the Fender Mustang IV Amp. Only “Lament” drums were recorded with a variety of mics, at our drummer James’ house.

Rest Your Weary Eyes’ was a big turning point for the duo, and touched upon deeper themes. “Faint” touched upon the current situation in their home country in Venezuela, and was inspired by latin rhythms, funk and alternative music. “Lament” delved deeper into understanding mental health, and songs like “Run” and “Night Owl” touched more upon our personal relationships and how the duo interpreted them. It seemed as if the sound was moving towards a more alternative direction, with the exception of “Like Pirates” (A City and Colour inspired folk tune).

The entire EP was recorded and produced using Cubase 5. It was the first DAW that Daniel had used to record, and he took their second EP as an opportunity to learn how to use the tool and learn about EQ, compression, reverb etc. The artwork for the EP cover was done by Meagan Malixi @madebymalixi.
